Université de Haute-Alsace
ENSISA is a College of Engineering, which Textile Department is over 150 years old. The College is part of the University of Haute-Alsace (UHA) located in Mulhouse (France) which counts around 8.000 students.
The Textile Department trains engineers (approx. 40 / year) who acquire specific skills in the field of fibre science and fibre based materials. Key learning topics deal with: mechanics and modeling, chemistry and polymers, fibrous materials characterization, manufacturing processes (spinning, weaving, knitting, non-woven), finishing, textile design. The acquired knowledge is applied to composite materials, medical textiles, smart textiles, bio sourced textiles in the frame of projects.
Our engineers are enrolled in a wide range of industrial fields like luxury ready-to-wear or large distribution, aeronautics, automotive, medical textiles, technical textiles in general, production of textiles using complex technologies. The program is strongly bound to the industry as students can spend up to 10 months in the industry in the frame of internships. The program runs over 3 years and delivers the Master of Science degree.
The textile engineering department is associated with an internationally recognized research laboratory (LPMT, Laboratoire de Physique et Mécanique Textiles) which has strong expertise in studying the fiber at all scales (from the nano-scale at fiber level to macro scale at the level of the fabric). LPMT is specialized in the development of fibrous materials, fibrous products as well as methods to characterize all kind of fibrous constructions. Typical research fields are composite materials, cardiovascular implants, smart textiles, 3D textiles, protective clothing
