Technische Universität Chemnitz

The Chemnitz University of Technology is a institution with a long-standing tradition in engineering education and research. Founded in 1836, the Department of Textile Technologies is the oldest textile department in Germany.

Our facilities provide students with hands-on experience in diverse textile processes, including spinning, warp and weft knitting, spin knitting, braiding, weaving, finishing, assembling and recycling. Advanced methods, such as load-adapted fiber placement for near-net-shape composite parts, are also integral to our curriculum. Reinforcing fibers such as flax, hemp, glass, or carbon can be processed using our state-of-the-art infiltration and pressing equipment. Research facilities further support modeling and material characterization, addressing both theoretical and practical aspects of textile engineering.

To prepare students for future challenges, we offer the Master’s program Sustainable Textile Technologies and Outdoor Equipment, which equips them with the skills to meet the demands of sustainability and opens career opportunities in Europe’s vibrant outdoor industry. Furthermore, our department has developed the innovative textil-trainer platform, a groundbreaking digital educational tool. As an active hub for knowledge exchange, we also host the Sustainable Textile School, a globally recognized conference, that brings together experts, researchers, and industry leaders to address pressing challenges and innovations in sustainability

Our research activities span diverse fields, including sustainable materials, regional wool research, and advanced developments in sports technology. Notably, we have achieved significant innovations in the design of water sports and ski equipment, combining sustainability with high-performance demands.

With 30% of our students coming from international backgrounds, Chemnitz University offers a globally oriented environment, preparing graduates for successful careers. The department serves students from various disciplines, including Textile Engineering, Lightweight Engineering, Medical Engineering, and Sports Engineering.

As a member of AUTEX, we are proud to contribute to the global exchange of knowledge and innovation in textile technologies, combining tradition with cutting-edge research and education.
