Tiangong University
Tiangong University (TGU) is a state-run full-time institution of higher education, which is jointly established by the national Ministry of Education and Tianjin Municipal Government. The university has a long history with its earliest departments established in 1912. It began to run independently in 1958 as “Hebei Textile and Engineering School”, which was changed to “Tianjin Textile and Engineering School” in 1968. It was not renamed as “Tianjin Polytechnic University” until the year 2000 and then “Tiangong University” in 2019. In 2017, the university has been selected as the national “Double First-Class” world first-class discipline construction university. Now TGU has developed into a multidisciplinary engineering university with coordinated development of engineering, sciences, management, economics, laws and arts.
Our School of Textile Science and Engineering enjoys a history of more than one hundred years. In 1981, the discipline was entitled with the first batch of master's degree granting right nationwide. Since 1993, it acquired the right to grant doctoral degree to Textile Engineering. As National Key Discipline, Textile Engineering, in 2017, acquired A+ in national assessment of the same discipline. In June 2016, its Engineering, materials sciences and Chemistry of TGU ranked among the top 1% of ESI worldwide for the first time.
The school has four undergraduate majors: Textile Engineering, Light Chemical Engineering, Non-woven Materials and Engineering and Clothing Design and Engineering. The school now has more than 30 doctoral supervisors and more than 90 master supervisors. More than 30 overseas returnees have obtained doctoral degrees abroad or engage in scientific research as post doctors.
