RTU is a modern internationally recognized university. Studies at RTU are implemented by nine faculties, including 33 institutes. Study programs related to textile and clothing technology are realized in the Faculty of Materials Science and Applied Chemistry, Institute of Design Technologies. There are three-level study programs: two professional Bachelor study programs ”Clothing and Textile Technology” and “Material Technologies and Design”, one professional Master's study program: “Design engineering” and one Ph.D. study program “Fibre Materials Science”. 

Research directions:

  • Modification of natural and chemical fibre, materials and products and optimisation of their properties for improvement of the user's comfort and safety.
  • Research of smart textiles, clothing, sewn products and relevant electronic systems and development of innovative solutions; development and innovative environmentally friendly products and technologies.
  • Design of sustainable products with a high added value of Latvian renewable resources and their processing waste, development and optimisation of manufacturing technologies.
  • Development of coatings containing modifications of textiles, bioactive and other functional substances and nanowebs.
  • Research of comfort in clothing; research of evaluation of the fit of clothing; research of functional textiles, clothing and protection means and improvement of design thereof; integration of 3D anthropometric data in CAD environments.
