Kyoto Institute of Technology

Since the foundation of “Kyoto Institute of Technology (KIT)” in the 19th century, "Faculty of Textile Science” has made a great contribution towards the development of Japan by delivering skilled human resources and technical advances in the field of fiber and textile science and engineering. Also, in an effort to meet the global needs of this fast growing field, KIT has played a great social role in leading education and research both domestically and internationally.

“Center for Fiber and Textile Science (CFTS)” was established in conjunction with the expansion and rebuilding of KIT that included the establishment of a graduate school in FY 2006. As a base to lead in the advanced fiber and textile science and engineering, CFTS was built with ideas to uphold the values and traditions of our institution, and demonstrate innovative technology in fiber and textile science and engineering. In FY 2015 "Academic Field of Fiber Science and Engineering” and "Faculty of Fiber Science and Engineering“ were organized as new education and research organizations within the field of fiber and textile science and engineering. Since then, it has been a key player in the promotion of R&D in fiber and textile science and engineering as an independent organization.

Established in Kyoto where various arts, traditions, and cultures still thrive, CFTS attempts to comprehensively develop the next generation of world class fiber science and engineering by continuously fostering the latest science and technology related to fiber and textiles and by cooperating with the new education and research departments of KIT.
