After a 5 year career in the industry that started in 1984, Prof. Van Langenhove joined Ghent University.
The initial research focused on the modelling of mechanical aspects of textile materials and processes. In 2000 she started a new research area: smart textiles. She was selected as one of the 50 Belgian tech pioneers by “de Tijd” in 2017.
Currently, she is leading a group of around 10 PhD students, supported by 2 senior researchers.

Prof. Van Langenhove has been involved in approx. 40 (intern)national projects addressing research, education and valorisation.
Following an intensive training on design based learning, several education projects were initiated concerning co-creation based teaching and its link with entrepreneurship. In this framework, she is co-founder of the UGent design factory the Foundry.
Prof. Van Langenhove is coordinating the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Programme WE-TEAM.
She is promotor-spokeswoman of the UGent valorisation consortium on Textiles for Comfort and Protection (T-CAP). This multidisciplinary consortium seeks exploitation of research in industry and society. 15 professors and senior researchers from 7 faculties and 4 groups from UGent association partners take part in T-CAP.
Prof. Van Langenhove has extensive board room experience (eg. Ghent University, government agencies for Innovation by Science and Technology resp. Research Infrastructure (vice-president), Public Education in the area of Ghent, Friends of the Industry Museum (president) etc.)
